Need separate fields

In my opinion, the high school teams should not get to use our Hilo High baseball field to play their football games.

It has been too long for Hilo High not to have its own football stadium instead of always using Wong Stadium. This is a real problem because they make the field sloppy and dug up before our season even starts.

When they play their games, the field gets beat up and creates more holes and puddles. In the infield, they use the benches, and all the players who aren’t playing are walking around by shortstop and second base, which also creates holes and indents in the dirt.

When it’s our turn to use the field, there are bad hops from ground balls because of all the holes in the field. It becomes hard to predict where the ball is going to be and makes us less confident in our ability to field it. Also, the Hilo High football team won a state championship, and this should be another reason for them to get their own stadium. They deserve it. It’s not only about the baseball, but that plays a big part in this.

The county spent more than $3 three million to try and make a field at Kuawa park but was unsuccessful. This is near Hilo Bayfront. The question is, where can we get the money to make this stadium specifically for Hilo High football?

Well, if the county can spend $3 million on a messed up, unsuccessful field, I’m sure they can spend more money on a more well-planned stadium.

On behalf of the baseball team and Hilo High School, we promise our school will help raise funds. One day, we will have separate fields, and, hopefully, that day will come soon.

Support police

We lost another young police officer recently in California. He had a family and he loved his job. My prayers go out to him, his family, Bronson Kaliloa’s family, and to all who have sacrificed their lives to make our world a better place to live in.

To survive, I believe a society needs law and order.

I believe anyone that tells you this is not true is the person who will be telling you what to do and how to do it, if given the chance.

Our police officers always need our support and humility not because they’re perfect, but because they took on the job to protect and serve us.
